Marburg is among the deadliest pathogens known to humans, with Marburg virus disease (MVD) case fatality rates ranging from 24% to 88% in past outbreaks, depending on virus strain and case management. The first outbreak occurred in Marburg, Germany, in 1967. Since then, subsequent outbreaks have been mostly reported across Africa.

So far, the Marburg virus has killed 12 people in Rwanda since it was declared an outbreak on September 27. Talking about the source of this outbreak, authorities said that there is still no confirmation of the source of the outbreak.

Amid an outbreak of Marburg virus in Rwanda, travelers coming into the United States who have been in Rwanda in the previous 21 days will be screened starting next week, the US Department of Health and Human Services announced Monday.
