Days after Helene struck Florida's Big Bend coast as a Category 4 hurricane, Milton rapidly intensified into a hurricane and appeared to aim at Florida.

Milton is tracking towards areas already devastated by Hurricane Helene, which struck northern Florida on 26 September. On Sunday evening, Milton was about 780 miles from Tampa with sustained winds of 85mph.

Milton became a hurricane Sunday, afternoon with "steady and rapid strengthening" forecast over the next few days.
